A membership organization, SDCRS supports the recreational playing and performance of recorders and other early music instruments.SDCRS meets monthly to play ensemble music from medieval to 20th century with professional conductors. Our monthly chapter meetings are held in the afternoon on the third Saturday (usually) of the month from September through June. Recorder players of all skill levels are invited to attend. All players are invited to attend at warm-up session from 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m.; then all players will be instructed by our guest conductor from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. A list of meeting dates, guest conductors, and directions to the meeting location can be found on the Calendar page. Bring your own music stand. We currently have no beginner's class. If anyone is interested in learing the recorder, please call Harvey Winokur 619-334-1993 or email the webmaster. We can direct you to an instructor who gives private lessons.
In addition to the monthly chapter meetings, SDCRS sponsors special events. The highlight of our season is our annual workshop which focuses on musical periods, composers or types of music or skills. Our instructors are the best and the brightest in our region. Other special events include a winter holiday performance at some location and Recorder Society performances throughout San Diego County.
